V Heart Health- Cardiac Rehab digital live streaming exercise
Live streamed weekly exercise has been designed to bring cardiac rehabilitation into the digital world, making it more accessible to all that have digital technology within their own home. You will be given a pulse oximeter to measure your heart rate and a theraband for exercise purposes.
How do I access V Heart Health?
You will receive a weekly email with a link on Microsoft Teams message, just click on the purple button to access the session.
Questionnaires
Your invitation will also include a live link to answer a pre- exercise questionnaire, this is checked by the team to ensure you are safe and well to exercise. Please make sure that you complete this by 09.30am on the day of exercise.
What if I commence the programme but my digital device isn't compatible or doesn't work?
Lincolnshire Community Health Services has some ipads which it can lend you to use through out the six week course.
Safety for the exercise session
Make sure you have enough room around you to exercise and you are not going to knock anything over or injure yourself.
if you need something for balance/support make sure you have that.
Please have your telephone nearby.
Please do not leave the room unexpectedly.
Make sure you have a drink of water nearby and drink as needed.
Make sure you have towel handy if needed.
Make sure you have your GTN spray or inhalers nearby if needed.
Diabetics please test before you exercise.
If you feel unwell please let us know.
Ensure you keep your feet moving or toes moving at all times to stop you feeling dizzy.
If an exercise hurts or feels too challenging please don’t do it and let us know.
If you do feel dizzy or any other symptoms sit down in a chair and let us know.
Ensure you do the warm up and cool down before you start and stick to the moderate pace using the effort scale.
Don’t exercise if you feel unwell, have a temperature.
Can you hear/see me? Please ensure patients know signal for I can’t hear you – is hand to ear and signal for feeling unwell -thumbs down.
If the internet/power goes off, start cool down and we will contact you asap.
Theraband safety: You should have already received your theraband in the post, Please be aware to check the integrity of the band regularly, if damaged in anyway do not use and please contact the team for a replacement.
When preforming the exercises, ensure that you have a firm grip on the theraband for safety.
You may have been advised to use light weights instead of the band which you may find more comfortable to use.
You will be provided with 6 set day sessions over a 6 week period . This will incorporate a 15 minute warm-up session, a conditioning phase and a 15 minute cool down session. The exercises will incorporate cardiovascular exercises to strengthen the heart and active recovery exercises at a slower pace to allow the heart a recovery period. At the end of exercise we deliver a bite-size ten minute educational session on various cardiac topics which allow time for your heart rate to return to normal before you sign off.
We will teach you to use the effort scale in activity. This is a rate of perceived exertion, allowing you to understand your body and exercise at a safe level.
All of this will be done with the guidance and support of the Cardiac Rehab Team.
